Take the issues that are causing you stress and assign each one a number from 1 through 10. Make one a simple problem and a ten the worst problem possible. When you do this, you can train your mind to not stress over little things that shouldn’t be stressed over either way.

Stress by any other name is not the same, so stop using the word so much! The word works only to constantly remind you how stressed you are; it becomes a new cause of stress. By thinking or saying the word, you could be causing yourself to feel even more stress, so benefit yourself by finding another word to refer to stress.

Aromatherapy can be a very effective means of managing stress. Certain scents, such as chamomile and lavender, have been associated with eliciting a relaxed response from people who smell those scents. Combine scented oil with some rock salt, and place it in a small container. When you’re stressed out, open the vial and smell it.

Understand your stress. It’s critical to understand what things are happening in your life and are contributing to heightened stress. It is usually a reaction to something like an object, person or event. After you have discovered the more precise causes of your stress, you can then get to work on them.

Remember to never rely on drugs and/or alcohol as a crutch to deal with stress. Unfortunately, this is how some choose to cope with their issues. Essentially, this is how they work to provide relief for the issue. Unfortunately, however, it’s only temporary relief — if even that. Drugs including alcohol, however, are never the solution to your problems. Far from fixing what’s wrong, drugs and alcohol will just add another layer of complexity to your existing issues.

Even the most innocent-seeming activities may actually be contributing to your feelings of stress. For example, playing several hours of fast-paced and tense video games or poker can create more stress than it relieves. Don’t neglect important activities like eating or sleeping in favor of less important activities.

Find out what are the major causes of your life’s stress, then figure out how to decrease them as much as you can, or completely get rid of them altogether. For example, if there is someone who always makes your life worse and stresses you out then find a way to fix or get rid of that relationship. Getting rid of stress sources can incredibly improve both your health and attitude.

Think about how you deal with the stress in your life to find out how you can do better to handle it. Think about logging your stress and what causes it over a few weeks. Take a careful look at your journal to understand what you did when a stressful event came about, and if that response was a healthy one. If you don’t think you handled things well, think of new and better ways to approach the same situation.

At your job or any work environment, it is best if you have some control over the music you can listen to, this can help you feel much better. Listen to lower key music so that it can calm you. If you use upbeat music, it should have happy lyrics and a happy tempo.

If you have unhealthy ways of coping with stress, make it a point to replace those ways with more effective, healthier habits. Getting some exercise is a better way of dealing with stress than overeating. By replacing unhealthy methods with ones that are healthier, your body will be able to remain strong and healthy so that it can better handle any daily stress.

If something is frustrating you, like a video game, stop doing it right away. Understand that you are supposed to be clearing your mind and feeling calm, rather than replacing your stress with frustration.

A great way to lessen your stress is to put on some music. The next time you find yourself to be stressed, put in your favorite music and focus on it. This will allow you to break from what you have been focusing on, or what had been stressing you out.

It’s very important to avoid letting stress win. Don’t dwell on the negative aspects of your life. Take charge of the situation and send stress on its way out the door.
